 Hanne Chen

Hanne Chen was born in 1961 and grew up in the Ruhrgebiet. Her lasting love of Chinese poetry and Taoism developed early on. At the age of fifteen, she began to teach herself Chinese characters. She later studied Sinology and German Literature, spent four and a half years in Taiwan and China, and became an assistant at the newly-founded Department of Sinology in Kiel. After the birth of her children, she began to write books about China. Her first children’s book was written because of her children’s homesickness: they could take only one friend with them from Göttingen to California – the moon. A copy remained for the people of Göttingen. (They do not even notice the difference). She currently lives with her husband and two children in England.
