Monika Maron

Monika Maron, born in 1941, grew up in East Germany. Upon completing secondary school, she worked for a year as a machinist in an aircraft factory near Dresden, pursued a degree in theatre studies and art history, then worked as an assistant television director. A freelance writer since 1976, she emigrated to Hamburg with her family in 1988. She has lived in Berlin since 1993.
