Renate Raecke, born in 1943, studied literature and art history before working at various publishing houses as well as in the book trade. She was chairman of the Association for Children’s and Youth Literature (AKJ) in Munich and an executive member of the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY) in Basel. She has also been active in numerous national and international juries, as well as organizing exhibitions and workshops (e.g., for the Troisdorf picture-book museum). Renate Raecke works as a freelance publisher, editor and translator, and lives in northern Germany.
