Jo Lendle, born 1968 in Osnabrück, pursued a degree in Cultural Studies and Literature in Hildesheim, Montreal and Leipzig. He began working at the DuMont publishing house in 1997, first as an editor, then as senior editor for German-language literature, and became its publishing director in 2010. He has been head of the Carl Hanser publishing house in Munich since 2014. Jo Lendle is also an author, and teaches at various universities.
