Carlos Widmann, born 1938 in Buenos Aires, studied in Munich before becoming an editor at the Süddeutsche Zeitung, and then its foreign correspondent in Rio de Janeiro, New Delhi, Rome and Washington from 1965 to 1991. From 1991 onwards he worked as a correspondent for Der Spiegel, first in Washington and later in Paris. Carlos Widmann lives in Paris and Umbria.
