Valentin Groebner, born 1962 in Vienna, is Professor of Medieval and Renaissance History at the University of Lucerne. He has been a Fellow at the Berlin Wissenschaftskolleg and at the European University Institute in Florence, and a Guest Professor at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales in Paris. He is the author of numerous books on the history of culture and science; he has been a member of the German Academy for Language and Literature since 2017.
