Publisher's profile
The Würzburg Arena Verlag was founded in 1949 by Georg Popp.
Since then, the name Arena has stood for excitement, knowledge and entertainment, and for informative and challenging literature targeted to children and young people.
In 1958, Arena became the first publisher in Germany to launch a paperback series for children and young people. Arena has also been a pioneer in books for early readers. Starting in 1981, the company developed a pedagogically sophisticated, multilevel reading concept. In 1987, Arena took over the children and young adult book program from Benziger publishers in Zurich. Today the imprint is called Bücherbär Arena Verlag. Since 2000, Arena has taken over Ensslin Publishers. With approximately 3000 available titles, Arena offers a diverse program for children and young people of all ages.
