Publisher's profile It wasn’t the biblical figure but rather the illustrator Jürgen Pankarz, nickname ‘Moses’, who lent his name to the company when it started up in 1991.
The famous series known as ‘Bücher mit was dran’ (‘Books with a bit extra’) — nowadays an ever-successful classic in the company’s programme — was originally created exclusively for the IKEA Family Club. But Gerd Herterich, who was then the IKEA man responsible for the club, enjoyed producing books so much that he joined moses. both as a partner and as Chief Executive.
With its innovations and unconventional ideas the company then rapidly made its mark in the book trade. Originality was thus its recipe for success right from the outset — in its discovery of the ever-popular ‘magnifying beaker’ as much as in its approach to the internet. The fabulous success of this small transparent plastic jar also paved the way for numerous other non-book products, which now account for some 40% of turnover!
