Friedrich Oetinger Publishing was founded in 1946. In 1949 the first book by Astrid Lindgren appeared: Pippi Longstocking. All subsequent Lindgren books were also published by Oetinger, making it the pioneer of Scandinavian children’s and young adult literature in Germany. Oetinger’s current list of titles includes more than 650 picture, children’s and young adult books, as well as a non-fiction and a board book series.
The publishing house is known for its for high artistic and literary standards under the motto “Fantasy has a future”. Numerous titles have received national and international awards. The publisher’s colophon is a flying goose on which two – reading – children – are heading into the land of their dreams.
Friedrich Oetinger Publishing places its authors at the center of its efforts, establishing and fostering them over the long-term. The close personal contact and trustworthy, longstanding collaboration with the authors play an essential role. The authors come predominantly from German-speaking and Scandinavian countries, though Anglo-American writers are also represented.
