Jutta Richter, born in 1955, grew up in the Ruhr region and in Westphalia. She published her first book while still in high school, after a one year stay in Detroit, Michigan. She later studied theology, German literature, as well as media and communication studies in Münster (North Rhine-Westphalia). She has worked as a freelance writer since 1978, dividing her time between Westerwinkel Palace in the Münster region and Hamburg.
