Revolution for life. A philosophy of the new forms of protest
Thessaloniki
Eva von Redecker discusses her book
Background
Protest movements such as Black Lives Matter, Fridays for Future and Ni Una Menos are currently fighting a world-wide battle against racism, climate catastrophe and violence against women. In essence their fight is directed at capitalism, which is destroying the very basis of our existence.
Eva von Redecker detects in these new forms of protest the beginnings of a revolution on behalf of our future life that is potentially capable of toppling the destructive world order that is capitalism, and holds out the promise of a new kind of solidarity: we could care for our world instead of dominating it; regenerate it, not exploit it; be fully involved in it rather than wanting only to extract maximum value from it. Von Redecker’s book constitutes the first philosophical analysis of this new activism.
