Every critic knows how difficult it is to live out your own standards anyway when you are subjected to the pressure of day-to-day life, in view of the dwindling role of book reviews and the culture of infotainment. At the same time more and more readers are commenting in blogs and forums on the titles they have read according to their own individual benchmarks. This means that literary criticism today is faced with new challenges. Can this development also be observed in the literature scenes in Russia and Brazil? What role does literary criticism play in literary discourse and the book trade respectively? What status does the criticism of translation occupy within the context of literary criticism, and what does it contribute to the transfer of culture? Translators and literary critics Michail Rudnizkij (Russia) and Kristina Michahelles (Brazil), as well as literary critic Maike Albath (Germany), discuss this question.
