Frankfurt
Panel discussion
(English)
The contemporary Arabic literary scene is notable for its many outstanding authors who are focusing on current issues in their literary works. Local publishers, booksellers and opinion-makers are committed to ensuring these artistic and intellectual positions reach their readers. It is difficult to measure the ways in which literature resonates within the Arab world. At the same time, there continues to be a lack of effective distribution channels between countries in the Arab world. How can we fortify literary exchange in the region and thereby also stimulate the joy of reading? Do EBooks play a role in the Arab market? How important are literary translations from other languages?
In light of the current Litrix focus on the Arab World 2015-18, we have invited experts from Egypt, Jordan and Lebanon to discuss the Arab book market.
Participants:
Rania Zaghir (Beirut), author and publisher, Al Khayyat Al Saghir Publishers
Valentina Qussisiya (Amman), CEO Abdul Hameed Shoman Foundation
Karam Youssef (Cairo), publisher and bookseller, Al Kotob Khan For Publishing and Distribution
Moderator: Amira El Ahl (Munich, Cairo)
Cooperation: Goethe-Institut Cairo, Litrix.de
Salon Weltempfang, Hall 3.1, Stand L25
Stand of the Goethe-Institut
Wednesday, 14.10. until Sunday, 18.10.2013 // Halle 3.1, Stand L 38
