The novels of the journalists Laura Cwiertnia and Lin Hierse - both of them inspired by the authors’ own family history - recount the hunt for evidence that takes their protagonists to the distant homelands of their parents and grandparents. Cwiertnia’s Auf der Straße heißen wir anders (‘We have a different name on the road’) takes us from Germany to Armenia, while Hierse’s Wovon wir träumen (‘Things we dream about’) takes us to China - and the central issue in both novels is the question of our origins and where we belong.
