Jungbrunnen Verlag

When the organisation ‘Österreichische Kinderfreunde’ founded the publisher Jungbrunnen in 1923, its aim was to provide ‘really good books for every type of child’; the Österreichische Kinderfreunde still own the company today. Jungbrunnen classics have been giving delight for generations, most notably Das kleine Ich bin ich (‘Little I-am-me’) and Die Omama im Apfelbaum (‘The Grandma in the Apple Tree’) by Mira Lobe und Susi Weigel, Valerie und die Gute-Nacht-Schaukel (‘Valerie and the Good-Night Swing’) by Mira Lobe and Winfried Opgenoorth, and the ‘Stanislaus’ books by Vera Ferra-Mikura and Romulus Candea.
Jungbrunnen books are read in many countries across all five continents, with more than half of the original Jungbrunnen books having been translated; Die Omama im Apfelbaum works its magic in twenty-six different languages. The books are particularly popular in Asian countries. Jungbrunnen has more than 160 books in its list, including books by Helga Bansch and Heinz Janisch, Agi Ofner, Michael Roherl, Armin Kaster, Albert Wendt, Brigitte Jünger, Eva Roth and Michèle Minelli.
