Helmut Böttiger was born in Creglingen in 1956. He studied German literature at Freiburg University and completed his studies with a dissertation on the literature of the GDR. He was features editor at the Frankfurter Rundschau until 2001, and he now lives in Berlin, where he works as a columnist and critic.
