Herfried Münkler, born 1951 in Friedberg, is Professor of Politics at Berlin’s Humboldt University. He is the distinguished author of numerous books on the history of political ideas and on the theory of war, many of which have become standard works, such as Machiavelli (1982) and Gewalt und Ordnung (1992).
