Sanssouci Verlag was established in 1954 by Peter Schifferli, founder and owner of Arche Verlag. Sanssouci was originally set up to publish trade and non-fiction while Arche focused on more literary titles. It came to specialize in high quality, large-format illustrated books and small gift books for special occasions, a tradition that continued after its acquisition by Hanser in 1995. These days Sanssouci complements its publishing with a successful line of non-books, such as the cult literary magnet series, “Fridge Poetry”. It is home to many well-known authors and illustrators including Michael Sowa, Philip Waechter, Elke Heidenreich, Ole Könnecke, Luis Murschetz, Hans Zippert, Rainer Moritz, Bernd Schroeder and Quint Buchholz.
Sanssouci Verlag is part of the Hanser Verlag publishing group.
