Stephan Wackwitz was born in Stuttgart in 1952. He studied history and German literature in Munich and Stuttgart. He has worked for the Goethe-Institut in Frankfurt, New Delhi, Tokyo and Munich and is currently the director of the institute in Krakow. Besides numerous essays, he has written three novels.
