Klaus Schwarz Verlag
The Klaus Schwarz Verlag was founded in Freiburg in 1969 by the turcologist Klaus Schwarz, but then moved a few years later to Berlin. The Islamic scholar Gerd Winkelhane took over the management of the company in 1989. Following Winkelhane’s death the company was taken over by de Gruyter. The Klaus Schwarz Verlag publishes in the fields of Islamic studies, Arabic, Iranian, Turkish, Ottoman and Middle Eastern studies. It has a backlist of more than 600 titles, and around fifteen new ones are published each year. In addition, the Klaus Schwarz Verlag works in cooperation with a number of well-known organisations such as the Leibniz-Zentrum Moderner Orient and the Max Weber Foundation’s Orient-Institut Beirut.
