The Transparent Translator

On International Translation Day - also known as ‘Hieronymus Day’ - the translator Hebba Sherif will offer an insight into the craft and art of literary translation. She will undertake a ‘live’ translation from German into Arabic of excerpts from Melinda Nadj Abonji’s novel Schildkrötensoldat [‘Tortoise soldier’]. By means of this transparent process she will open up the challenges and decisions that translation involves to general discussion. The audience will have the opportunity to experience the translation process at first hand, to offer their comments, and to ask questions.
In the context of its current programme focusing on ‘The Arabic world 2015-18’, Litrix.de is offering financial support for the Arabic translation of Schikldkröternsoldat.
