Festival "pordenonelegge" 2023
Meet the author
Esther Kinsky in Pordenone
In association with Pordenonelegge and the publisher Iperborea, the Milan Goethe Institute presents the German author Esther Kinsky.
The great roaring of 6 May 1976
Esther Kinsky with Alessandro Mezzena Lona
Spazio Piazza della Motta, Piazza della Motta, Pordenone
“Afterwards everyone talked about the noise. The mighty roaring sound that marked the start of the whole thing.” On 6 May 1976 the Friuli region was shaken by a massive earthquake that shattered both the landscape and the lives of those that lived there. Seven inhabitants of a remote mountain village - some of them already adults at the time, and others still children - tell of their lives in an archaic mountain community with its own specific linguistic identity, its own traditions, its lot as a poverty-stricken region out on the fringes of the country, a region where people dream of seeing the sea, emigrate in search of work, and return later stricken with nostalgia.
This event is taking place within the context of the Goethe Institute’s Litrix.de Translation Support programme, and in association with the Salone Internazionale del Libro di Torino.
