Terézia Mora in Rome
Book presentation
Muna oder Die Hälfte des Lebens (Luchterhand 2023) – La metà della vita (Gramma Feltrinelli 2024)
Terézia Mora discusses her novel `Muna oder Die Hälfte des Lebens` - `Muna or Half of Life`
Muna has been blinded (supposedly) by love. Just as she is about to graduate from high school, she meets Magnus, a French teacher and photographer. After spending a night together, Magnus disappears after the fall of the Berlin Wall. Like many families in East Germany, Muna experiences a major upheaval in her life. She moves to Berlin, Vienna and London. Yet once she unexpectedly runs into Magnus again, the once ambitious young woman abandons all her goals and achievements. The relationship turns toxic— characterized by violence, humiliation and self-deception. Can Muna save herself from this unhealthy bond?
Terézia Mora was born in communist Hungary in 1971, and has lived in Berlin since the fall of the Berlin Wall. She studied Hungarian Studies and Theater Studies at the Humboldt University in Berlin. She has been a full-time writer and translator since her first publication in 1999.
