Più Libri Più Liberi
Moshtari Hilal in Rome
The Goethe-Institut, in association with Fandango Libri, presents the author Moshtari Hilal in conversation with Igiaba Scego at the Più Libri Più Liberi Festival (4-8 December 2024).
Sunday 8.12.24, 12p.m.
La Nuvola, Sala Elettra, Viale Asia, 40, 00144 Rome
Ugliness
Heavy bodily hair, brown teeth, large nose: Moshtari Hilal investigates notions of ugliness. In her unique book she writes about beauty salons in Kabul as products of the American invasion, about Darwin’s theory of evolution, about Kim Kardashian, and about a utopian locus adjacent to the nose. Her researches, analyses and reminiscences, the images she cites and her own drawings, take us into that innermost zone where everyone’s self-understanding is put to the test. Why do we fear ugliness? Moshtari Hilal is talking about all of us when she speaks poetically and touchingly, intimately and extremely politically, about the norms that we choose to impose on one another.
Further details
Language: German, with simultaneous translation into Italian by Corina Gabualdi
This event is part of the series Più libri più liberi 2024.
