Katerina Poladjan was born in Moscow, grew up in Rome and Vienna, and now lives in Germany. Her work includes plays and essays; her debut novel In einer Nacht, woanders (‘One night, somewhere else’) was followed by Vielleicht Marseille (‘Perhaps Marseilles’), and together with Henning Fritsch she wrote the literary travelogue Hinter Siberien (‘Beyond Siberia’). She was nominated for the Alfred Döblin Prize and also for the European Union Prize for Literature, and participated in the 2015 Klagenfurt Festival of German-language Literature. She was awarded scholarships by the German Literature Fund, the Berlin Senate and the Tarabya Cultural Academy in Istanbul for her novel Hier sind Löwen (‘There are lions here’). In 2021 she was awarded the City of Dortmund’s Nelly Sachs Prize. Zukunftsmusik was placed on the shortlist for the 2022 Leipzig Book Fair Prize.
