Alexander Kluge, born in 1932, studied law, history and church music in Marburg and Frankfurt am Main. After being admitted to the bar, he trained under film director Fritz Lang. He has worked as a filmmaker, screenwriter, television producer and literary author ever since. Kluge has been recognized as one of the most influential representatives of New German Cinema, a movement he helped establish and develop, in theory and in practice.
