Jacoby & Stuart Verlag
The publishing house Jacoby & Stuart was founded in March 2008 by the husband-and-wife publishing team of Edmund Jacoby and Nicola Stuart. Together with their dedicated staff, they work in Berlin’s Prenzlauer Berg neighbourhood.
The remit of Jacoby & Stuart is to publish children’s and young-adult books (but only top-quality ones), exciting novels, sophisticated graphic novels, innovative cookbooks, and intelligent non-fiction. Jacob & Stuart sees itself as a cultural institution rather than simply a business enterprise.
Internationally acclaimed artists such as Atak, Jutta Bauer, Rotraut Susanne Berner, Larissa Bertonasco, Aljoscha Blau, Blexbolex, Benjamin Lacombe, Lilli L’Arronge, Joëlle Tourlonias, Christoph Niemann, Axel Scheffler, Britta Teckentrup, Judith Drews, Dieter Böge, Bernd Mölck-Tassel and Hannes Wirklinger characterise its assortment. Classics such as Albert Camus, Herman Melville, Edgar Allan Poe and Oscar Wilde, and celebrated writers like Davide Calì, Kate Di Camillo, Thomas Harding, Jean-Claude Grumberg and Jean-Claude Mourlevat are among the authors published by Jacoby & Stuart.
Jacoby & Stuart’s graphic novels are often translations of top French publications; but they also publish titles of their own such as the classic climate comic Die große Transformation (‘The great transformation’), and artistic children’s comics by Rotraut Susanne Berner und Lilli L’Arronge.
Jacoby & Stuart’s titles are also known for striking a political stance on behalf of liberal points of view, such as in the graphic novel Rosa Winkel and the anti-capitalist comic Economix, and in books opposing racism and xenophobia, or warning of the threat of climate Armageddon and pleading the cause of species conservation.
