Deutscher Taschenbuch Verlag is one of the most important publishers of paperbacks in the German language. Founded in 1961 by several publishing houses who jointly wished to publish their hardback books in paperback at a later stage, dtv has also developed an important list of titles in original editions, which now represent some 30 per cent of its publications, the best known being the dtv atlases. Other quality paperback lists include contemporary fiction, classics, human and natural sciences, reference and dictionaries, self help manuals, and a strong junior and young adult list.
